Dear Future Starlink Customer,
Let's be honest: traditional rural internet options in Kapiti are terrible. VDSL crawls at speeds that barely qualify as broadband. Wireless internet services (WISP) are expensive, unreliable, and often can't even reach your property unless you live in direct line of sight.
4G/5G rural wireless is data-capped and slows to a crawl when you actually use it. Mobile hotspots drain your data allowance in days.
For years, rural residents have been stuck with second-rate connectivity while paying premium prices.
Starlink changes everything.
Pricing from $79 a month, with a free or low priced dish, download speeds of 50-300+ Mbps, low latency suitable for video conferencing and most gaming, unlimited data with no throttling, and coverage literally anywhere with a clear view of the sky.
Work from home properly. Stream without buffering. Run your farm business with cloud-based software, without worry of the wind, rain, snow and hail.
Give your kids the same online learning opportunities as town-based students. Starlink delivers the modern internet rural Kapiti deserves.
Professional Installation Makes All the Difference
Getting Starlink equipment is easy—getting it installed properly on the roof is what counts and running the power cable to a conveniently located router is equally important.
Poor positioning means slower speeds and dropouts.
Amateur roof mounting risks leaks and wind damage in Kapiti's coastal conditions.
Incorrect network setup leaves your home with WiFi dead zones and frustrated users.
With over 20 years serving Kapiti properties, we know exactly how to install Starlink systems that deliver maximum performance and reliability.
We assess your property, identify the optimal dish location, provide professional weatherproof mounting, integrate with your existing network or set up a complete new WiFi system, and ensure every corner of your home gets strong, fast connectivity.
Local Experts, Local Support
When your internet goes down, you need help fast—not an offshore call center or a technician who might arrive next week.
As your local Kapiti Starlink installation specialists, we're here when you need us.
We understand rural property challenges, Kapiti weather conditions, and how to make technology work reliably in real-world conditions.
Stop settling for substandard rural internet. Get the fast, reliable connectivity your property deserves with professional Starlink installation from Kapiti IT.
Our wireless services in this category require our business rates.
How fast is Starlink compared to my current rural internet?
Most rural Kapiti properties currently struggle with ADSL speeds of 5-15 Mbps or unreliable wireless connections. Starlink typically delivers 50-300 Mbps download speeds with some users experiencing 200+ Mbps during optimal conditions. That's 10-30 times faster than typical rural ADSL. You'll notice the difference immediately—streaming in 4K, video conferencing without freezing, uploading large files in minutes instead of hours, and multiple family members online simultaneously without slowdowns.
What does professional Starlink installation include?
Our professional installation service includes a complete site assessment to identify optimal dish placement, secure weatherproof mounting (roof, ground pole, or wall mount depending on your property), professional cable routing with proper weatherproofing and protection, router setup and WiFi network configuration, integration with any existing network equipment you want to keep, testing to ensure maximum performance, and a full handover showing you how everything works. We don't just drop equipment and leave—we ensure your entire home has excellent connectivity.
Can Starlink work anywhere on my rural property?
Starlink requires a clear view of the southern sky (in New Zealand) without obstructions like tall trees or buildings blocking the signal. During our site survey, we assess your property to find the best location. Most rural Kapiti properties have excellent Starlink potential, but properties with heavy tree coverage or surrounded by tall obstacles may have limited options. We use Starlink's obstruction detection tools to guarantee your installation will deliver reliable performance before we begin work.
How much does Starlink cost including installation?
Starlink dish from Starlink website is around $0 to $599 depending on where you live. In Kapiti there is no high demand surcharge which is a $1,000 connection fee charged by Starlink for highly populated areas.
Our initial site visit and scope is $145+gst. We do not offer free site scopes. This includes location placement and discussion around getting the cable into the house, either via the roof and into the eave, through the roof or down the side of the house and into the house. We then recommend you sign up for Starlink (use our link for a free month), and get your equipment delivered. You will need to purchase a pole mount adapter from Starlink - we can supply this too but it is cheaper from Starlink website. Once delivered you'll let us know and we'll schedule an installation date.
The actual installation will cost around $650-$1000+gst. This includes the roof or eave bracket, cabling conduit, setup and testing.
We offer an affiliate link for new Starlink signups, this gives you one month free on your subscription. Please avoid signing up for Starlink until you have spoken to us to avail this offer as it can't be added after purchase.
Starlink monthly fee is around $79 for the entry level plan and $159 for the highest grade plan. You can pause your subscription as required for $10 a month.
We offer further wireless packages and solutions for connecting outbuildings, better home wireless etc which can be added to your Starlink installation for a complete package - please enquire.
Should I buy from Starlink directly or Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman?
We recommend buying directly from Starlink - you will get the best price. If you live rurally, your dish is often free. If you buy at a store you'll be stuck paying retail as they are unable to price based on your address.
Starlink dish will just work out of the box when bought directly from Starlink.com. If you buy from a store such as Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming, Bunnings, JB HiFi you'll need to jump through a few hoops to activate and start using it.
Buying from Starlink allows you to buy the correct pole adapter for your dish. Sometimes retailers may send you a V2 adapter for a V3 dish and it can be problematic when our installers show up to install.
Buying via Starlink allows you to use an installers affiliate link which gives you a free month - save $79-$159 off your new subscription.
Will Starlink work in bad weather?
Starlink performs remarkably well in typical New Zealand weather conditions. Light to moderate rain has minimal impact on connectivity. Heavy rain or thick snow can cause brief slowdowns or interruptions, but service typically returns quickly. Kapiti's coastal winds don't affect Starlink performance provided the dish is professionally mounted and secured. Overall, Starlink is far more reliable than rural WISP services that struggle with weather interference, and vastly superior to cellular connections that drop out completely in poor conditions.
Can I use my existing WiFi router with Starlink?
Yes, Starlink can integrate with existing network equipment, though many users find Starlink's included router adequate for their needs. If you have WiFi dead zones, want advanced network features, or need to cover a large rural property, we can integrate professional WiFi access points like Ubiquiti UniFi, Aruba, TP-Link, or Grandstream systems with your Starlink connection. We'll assess your home's layout and recommend the best solution for complete coverage throughout your property.
How long does Starlink installation take?
Most professional Starlink installations complete in 2-3 hours depending on complexity. Simple ground pole or roof mounts with straightforward cable runs can be faster, while installations requiring extensive cable routing, challenging mounting locations, or integration with whole-home WiFi systems may take longer. Unlike waiting weeks or months for traditional rural broadband installation (if it's even available), you can have working Starlink internet the same day we install it.
Can I use Starlink with a wireless point to point bridge to connect multiple buildings?
Absolutely! This is an excellent solution for rural properties with multiple buildings, farms with workshops or staff accommodation, or lifestyle blocks with separated dwellings. We install the Starlink dish at your main building, then use a professional wireless point to point bridge to extend that internet connection to barns, sleepouts, workshops, or secondary homes up to several kilometers away.
This gives you high-speed Starlink internet across your entire property without needing multiple Starlink subscriptions or running expensive underground cabling. We can integrate Ubiquiti, Aruba, Grandstream, or TP-Link wireless bridges with your Starlink system to create a complete property-wide network.
It's the perfect combination: Starlink solves your rural internet problem, and point to point bridges distribute that connectivity wherever you need it on your property.
Can I use Starlink internet for security cameras and CCTV systems on my rural property?
Yes, Starlink works excellently with modern IP security cameras and CCTV systems, finally giving rural properties the same surveillance capabilities urban homes have enjoyed for years.
With Starlink's consistent speeds and low latency, you can view live camera feeds remotely from your phone, receive instant motion alerts, store footage to cloud services, and run multiple high-definition cameras simultaneously without buffering or dropouts.
This is a game-changer for rural Kapiti properties where traditional slow internet made remote camera monitoring virtually impossible. We regularly install integrated solutions combining Starlink connectivity with professional security camera systems from brands like Ubiquiti Protect, MileSight, Hikvision, and others, ensuring your entire property is monitored reliably.
Whether you need cameras on outbuildings connected via wireless point to point bridges or a complete farm surveillance system, Starlink provides the bandwidth and reliability to keep your rural property secure with professional-grade remote monitoring that actually works when you need it most.
Can you integrate Starlink with Ubiquiti UniFi equipment for professional-grade home or business networking?
Absolutely, and this is where Starlink becomes truly exceptional for demanding users. While Starlink's included router works fine for basic needs, integrating it with Ubiquiti UniFi equipment transforms your rural property into a professional-grade network rivaling what businesses in town enjoy.
We can combine your Starlink connection with UniFi Dream Machine, UniFi switches, and UniFi WiFi 6/7 access points to deliver seamless whole-property coverage, advanced security features, guest networks, VLAN segmentation for business operations, detailed usage analytics, and rock-solid reliability.
This setup is perfect for rural businesses running critical operations, professionals working from home who need bulletproof connectivity for video conferences and cloud applications, tech enthusiasts who want the very best, or large rural properties requiring comprehensive WiFi coverage across multiple areas.
We design, install, and configure the complete system so your rural property has better networking infrastructure than most urban offices—all powered by Starlink's high-speed satellite internet. It's the ultimate rural connectivity solution.
